IBJJF standards
For IBJJF competition, mats must be at least 40mm thick and meet a shock-absorption standard. Most Gracie Barra schools use 50mm.
Home gym tradeoffs
- 40mm: lighter, fine for drilling.
- 50mm: handles throws.
- 60-70mm: Judo-heavy academies.
