Judo mats need to absorb full-impact throws (uchikomi, ippon-quality slams) while still allowing groundwork. The classic standard is 1-meter × 2-meter sections, 1.5″ or thicker foam, with traditional tatami-textured vinyl for grip in newaza.
Judo Mat Specifications
- Standard sections: 1m × 2m × 1.5″ foam — IJF tournament standard.
- Tatami texture: vertical-rib pattern for grip during ground transitions.
- Multi-density foam with low-rebound formulation — absorbs throws, doesn’t bounce attackers off.
- Phthalate-free vinyl top — antimicrobial, sweat-resistant, easy cleanup.
Color & Layout
Traditional judo dojos use red + green (the IJF tournament standard) or all-blue (modern, premium look). Our 9-color tatami line covers both. We can cut sections to alternate colors in a checkerboard pattern, or set distinct training zones (one color for practice, another for safety border).
Throw-Optimized Cushion
Judo training takes more vertical impact than BJJ. We recommend 1.625″–2″ foam for full-time judo academies, with a denser low-rebound core than our BJJ standard. Get an instant ballpark in the designer.
