If you train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you know the floor matters as much as the gi. ATX Mats is owned by three black belts who design every mat for the way BJJ is actually trained — sweeping, scrambling, takedowns, and live rolls. We don’t sell rebadged judo mats or general-purpose foam.
What BJJ Mats Should Get Right
- Grip — tatami texture for NoGi (vertical-ribbed surface), smooth for gi work and judo throws.
- Cushion without bounce — 1.5″–1.625″ foam core with low-rebound formulation. Too soft = bad for joints; too firm = mat burn risk.
- Antimicrobial vinyl top — phthalate-free. Vinyl that doesn’t trap sweat or breed staph.
- Custom shape — cut around your room, not the other way around. Pillars, doors, irregular walls — we cut to your exact footprint.
Most-Ordered BJJ Setups
- Roll-Out — 6 ft × 42 ft rolls, easiest for full-room academy installs. Most popular for new BJJ academies.
- Drop-In Tiles — 1m × 2m sections, best for rotating layout or shared-use facilities.
- Wall Mats — required adjacent to all training surfaces. Match floor color for clean look.
Most Popular BJJ Colors
Blue (deep, classic), Black (forgiving on stains), Red (high-energy, IBJJF-tournament style), and White (premium look — show those rolls). All available in tatami and smooth textures.
Owned by Black Belts
Tim, Dande, and Tussa are competing black belts. We’ve trained on every brand of mat there is. Every spec choice we make is based on what we’d want under our own backs at 6am. That’s our entire pitch.
